Stacey Fernandes, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., QP-RA

Stacey is a Senior Environmental Engineer and Senior Risk Assessor at CanNorth with over 25 years of experience in human health and ecological risk assessments. One of her specialties is conducting radiological risk assessments for a number of sectors including uranium, rare earths, and energy. She has conducted numerous risk assessments for contaminated sites and assisted in the development of risk management plans pertaining to a wide range of contaminants including metals, salts, nutrients, organic compounds, PFAS, and radiation. Stacey is the Senior Modeller at CanNorth and oversees many projects that model water quality and the fate and transport of contaminants in the receiving environment (aquatic and terrestrial). She has been designated as a Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA) under the Ontario Regulation 153/04 and has considerable experience in conducting and reviewing risk assessments under the regulation. She has completed risk assessments in accordance with Health Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada protocols for sites in Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and across Ontario. Attributable to her extensive experience, she is often involved in peer reviews and has participated in the development of guidance documents for risk assessments. As a challenge, she has been involved in several cutting-edge projects with the federal government examining the effects of climate change on human health and ecological risk assessments.
