Peter Vanriel, M.Sc., P.Biol.

General Manager

Peter began his career as a fisheries biologist and became the General Manager of CanNorth over 20 years ago. He uses his 35+ years of experience to provide leadership and vision to the organization by setting strategies, providing direction for the company’s growth, and identifying opportunities for diversification and expansion. He oversees all aspects of the company, including building relationships and fostering collaboration. Peter enjoys a challenge and is involved in acquisitions, contract negotiations, business development, environmental management systems, staff mentorship, and technical leadership. Peter has comprehensive knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements and has established excellent relationships with many regulatory agencies. In addition, he has provided expert witness testimony during public inquiries and has been an invited speaker at conferences on a diversity of topics. Peter’s passion extends beyond his work at CanNorth to his many professional volunteer activities including scientific and environmental advisory roles for the Saskatchewan and federal governments, as well as senior roles in various professional organizations. In 2022, Peter received the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal from the Government of Saskatchewan for “Demonstrated exceptional qualities and outstanding service” to the province. Peter moonlights as the Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands for Saskatchewan. His duties include being a resource for economic development, trade, education, and cultural exchange between Saskatchewan and the Netherlands.
