Karmen VanderZwan, M.A.

Karmen is CanNorth’s Heritage Division Manager and Senior Archaeologist. She has over 20 years of heritage consulting and archaeological experience with expertise in historic and northern plains archaeology and is a permit holder in Saskatchewan. Karmen has considerable experience in heritage assessments (pre- and post-impact, construction monitoring) and mitigations throughout the northern plains, boreal forest, and southern Ontario. She also has experience managing large- and small-scale projects in the oil and gas industry, mining industry, power generation and transmission, roadway and infrastructure, subdivisions, camping developments, and aggregate extraction and exploration. She has expertise in conducting heritage resource impact assessments and heritage resource impact assessment - mitigation (both HRIA-M and Type "A" - Research). Karmen enjoys sharing her knowledge with both school-aged and public volunteers while working on various public archaeology projects and continues to be an active member of the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society.
