Harriet Phillips, Ph.D., QP-RA

Harriet has proudly led the Risk Assessment Division at CanNorth since its creation in late 2015 and is a member of the Operations Team. She is a Chemical Engineer and has over 30 years of experience conducting and managing complex human health and ecological risk assessments related to mining, smelters, generating stations (conventional and nuclear), and contaminated and industrial sites across Canada and internationally. Her engineering experience enables her to apply practical solutions to challenges and informs her broad knowledge of the engineering aspects of projects. Harriet has unparalleled experience working on abandoned mine sites in northern Canada. She has completed human health and ecological risk assessments for every major abandoned mine site in the Northwest Territories and Yukon. She has evaluated the impacts of environmental contamination on community health, conducted burden of illness studies, and has experience implementing Traditional Knowledge and consultation into the risk assessment process. Harriet is designated as a Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA) under the Ontario Regulation 153/04. She has experience liaising with numerous regulatory agencies and has peer reviewed risk assessments on behalf of First Nations, lawyers, regulatory agencies, and the private sector.
